5 Steps of Lectio Divina

As we journey through Lent, let us deepen our spiritual connection through the practice of Lectio Divina. This ancient method of prayerful reading invites us to engage with Scripture in a profound way, opening our hearts to the voice of God. Here are the five steps of Lectio Divina, which we can integrate into our Lenten devotions:

  1. Lectio (Reading): Choose a passage of Scripture and read it slowly and attentively. Let the words wash over you, allowing them to penetrate your mind and heart.

  2. Meditatio (Meditation): Reflect on the passage you've read. Consider its meaning and how it speaks to your life. Allow God to speak to you through the words of Scripture.

  3. Oratio (Prayer): Respond to God in prayer. Share your thoughts, feelings, and desires with Him. Offer gratitude for His presence and ask for His guidance in your life.

  4. Contemplatio (Contemplation): Enter into a silent communion with God. Rest in His presence, allowing His love to fill your heart. Be open to any insights or revelations He may impart to you.

  5. Actio (Action): Finally, resolve to live out the truths revealed to you through Scripture. Let God's Word transform you from within, guiding your actions and decisions as you strive to live a life aligned with His will.

During this Lenten season, let us commit to incorporating these five steps of Lectio Divina into our daily spiritual practices. "And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe." - 1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NIV)  May our encounters with Scripture deepen our relationship with God and prepare our hearts for the joy of the Resurrection.
