Lectio Divina - Joshua 1:9

I hope you enjoyed completing your Lectio Divina on Matthew 11:28-30 last week.  If you didn't get a chance to complete yours I strongly encouage you to join us this week as we focus on Joshua 1:9

Lectio (Reading): Slowly and thoughtfully reading a passage of Scripture.

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” ~Joshua 1:9

Meditatio (Meditation): Reflecting on the text to understand what God is saying.

Meditating on this verse, the Holy Spirit highlighted the word "dismayed" to me, prompting me to look up its full meaning.

Dismay: To appall, horrify, or daunt by arousing fear, apprehension, or aversion. Dismay implies being disconcerted and at a loss as to how to deal with something.

When I truly understand that the Lord my God is with me wherever I go, I can enter spaces with confidence, take on large tasks with boldness, and face fearful situations with courage and strength. The Holy Spirit then reminded me of the very beginning of this verse, "Have I not commanded you?" He commands us to walk in the strength and courage that comes with knowing that there is no place we can go without Him. With the King of Kings with you, no situation you can't overcome. Big problems become easier when you realize you are not alone.

Oratio (Prayer):Responding to God in prayer based on our reflections.

Thank You for Your promise in Joshua 1:9 that You are always with us. Your Word tells us not to be afraid or dismayed, for You, our God, are with us wherever we go. I hold on to this promise today.

Lord, help me to fully grasp and embrace the truth that Your presence is with me in every situation. When I face daunting challenges or fearful circumstances, remind me of Your command to be strong and courageous. Fill me with Your boldness and strength so I can step into every situation with confidence, knowing that You go before me.

Holy Spirit, guide my steps and calm my heart. Replace my fear with faith, my anxiety with peace, and my hesitation with courage. Teach me to rely on Your presence, knowing that with You by my side, no obstacle is too great, no task too daunting, and no challenge insurmountable.

Thank You, Lord, for being my constant companion, my refuge, and my strength. With You, I can face any situation with courage and boldness. Help me to walk in the assurance of Your love and power every day of my life.

In Jesus' name, I pray.

Contemplatio (Contemplation):Resting in God's presence and allowing His Word to transform us.

Spend the week walking in strength and courage.
