Lent as a Season of Surrender

Lent is not only a time of sacrifice, but also a time to surrender. True surrender isn’t passive—it’s powerful. It’s not about giving up; it’s about giving over—our plans, our burdens, our need for control—to a God who loves us more than we can imagine.
Surrendering Our Will: Trusting God’s Way
“Father, if You are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but Yours be done.” – Luke 22:42 (NIV)
In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus gave us the ultimate example of surrender. He didn’t deny His struggle—but even in agony, He yielded to the Father’s will. During Lent, we are invited to do the same: to acknowledge the areas where we’re clinging too tightly and to trust that God’s way is better.
Ask yourself:What am I still holding on to that God is asking me to release?
Surrendering Our Fears: Embracing God’s Peace
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
Fear and worry often take root in our hearts when we try to carry burdens on our own. This season calls us to lay them down at the feet of Jesus. When we surrender our fears, we make room for His peace. This isn’t just about avoiding stress—it’s about living in the freedom that trust brings.
Encouragement:You don’t have to fix everything. You just have to follow the One who already has a plan.
Surrendering Our Pride: Walking in Humility
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.” – 1 Peter 5:6 (NIV)
Lent challenges us to quiet the ego, to silence the voice that says we have to prove ourselves. Humility creates space for grace. Surrendering our pride opens the door to deeper connection with God and others.
Practice this:This week, find one way to serve someone else—quietly, without recognition. Let it be a spiritual practice of humility and love.
Let This Be Your Prayer This Week:
Lord, teach me to surrender. I lay down my fears, my pride, my plans. Help me to trust Your timing, Your process, and Your heart for me. During this Lenten season, show me how to release what is not mine to carry, and to receive the peace and purpose You’ve promised. Amen.
Encouragement for the Journey:
This week, lean into the freedom that surrender brings. Lent isn’t just about sacrifice—it’s about exchange: our burdens for His peace, our way for His will, our strength for His power. You don’t have to have it all together—just be willing to let go and trust the One who does.
You are not walking this road alone. Keep going. Keep trusting. Keep surrendering. Resurrection is coming.
